Brandin Cooks' Speed Tips Scales In Patriots Favor On Offense
7 years agoNew England Patriots wide receiver Brandin Cooks will be one of the few offensive threats with the speed to make a big-time play against the Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday. Quarterback Tom Brady will continue to try and move the chains with quick, decisive throws, but he should take some shots down the field to loosen up the Eagles defense. This is where Cooks comes in after catching six passes for 100 yards in the AFC Championship win over the Jaguars. Cooks made an impression on the opening drive last week, hauling in a 35-yard reception that put the Jaguars defense on its heels early. The Eagles have a fantastic defense but can be beaten in the passing game and allowed the 14th most fantasy points to wide receivers during the regular season. They only allowed 14 touchdown passes to receivers but gave up eight of those during their final five games to finish the season. There weren't too many receivers to burn the Eagles secondary this season except the Giants' Sterling Shepard, who put up 18 catches and 272 yards in only two games. Cooks may not have the size but has more talent and speed to beat an opponent one on one. A lot of the focus has been on teammate Danny Amendola's success, but don't overlook Cooks. He will be one of the few players on either team that can take a play to the house at any moment this Sunday for the Super Bowl.
