7 years agoThe New York Mets do not have a “traditional” leadoff hitter on their current roster. With outfielder Michael Conforto out until at least May 1, the team just might believe the player most likely to hold down the fort, Juan Lagares, is the man to sit atop the lineup for now. As such, they plan on using Lagares in the leadoff spot “frequently” during spring training, with the goal of getting him extra at-bats to help out with his revamped swing. Yes, Lagares is the latest player to attempt to join in on the fly-ball revolution. As a career .257/.297/.366 hitter, there should be some skepticism as to the results Lagares may see. But the situation is nonetheless worth keeping an eye on with him hitting in front of players such as Yoenis Cespedes, Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier.--John Smith
