Andrew Benintendi Success Stems From Summer Break
7 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi has already accomplished in his rookie year what many players fail to reach in their entire career; he joined the 20 homers and 20 steals club. Benintendi attributes his sudden rise to stardom to an offseason before his sophomore season at the University of Arkansas. "I didn't play summer ball in between those two seasons, and I think that just gave me a chance to get bigger and stronger," Benintendi said. He used the time to heal from a quadricep injury and focus on strengthening his upper body. Consequently, Benintendi batted .376 with 20 homers, 13 doubles, two triples and 57 RBI and won the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. Benintendi has learned a valuable lesson and has used the last two offseasons to strengthen his lower body. Physically, Benintendi looks ready to revalidate his ticket to the 20/20 club.
