7 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith (undisclosed) was originally in the team’s lineup for their opening game of spring training, but has been scratched and replaced by Peter Alonso. There is no news yet as to why Smith was scratched. Hopefully, it’s nothing and Smith will be in the lineup next time out. Despite only getting the call to the majors last August, Smith finds himself at a very early-career crossroads. General manager Sandy Alderson was very vocal with his disappoint for Smith’s debut last year, and the team signed Adrian Gonzalez this winter. On the other side of the coin, Alonso is arguably turning into a better prospect than Smith ever was and could be giving him a run for his money as the Amazins first baseman of the future. Stay turned here for more information as it comes in.--John Smith
