7 years agoSeattle Mariners first baseman Daniel Vogelback (foot) was seen in a walking boot Saturday after he was hit by a pitch in the right foot in the Cactus League opener on Friday. His status is up in the air, although he did stay in the game and hit a double an inning before being taken out. Vogelbach is awaiting the results of an MRI exam. Manager Scott Servais said he expects Vogelbach to miss at least a few days. First baseman Ryon Healy (hand) is questionable to be ready for Opening Day, so Vogelbach and Rule 5 pick Mike Ford were expected to split the work at first base this spring. The 25-year-old Vogelbach has plus power, but he can't play defense and struggles against lefties. At best, he could platoon at designated hitter, but that means he'll only be an option for some power in deep AL-only leagues. Stay tuned for more news on the severity of his injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
