Cory Spangenberg Injures Wrist During Workout
7 years agoAJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports San Diego Padres infielder Cory Spangenberg jammed his wrist and will be out a "short period of time." Spangenberg was expected to compete with second baseman Carlos Asuaje for playing time at second base. His absence will open more opportunities for Jose Pirela, who will see action at second due to the overcrowded Padres outfield. The 26-year-old Spangenberg is a below-average defender and holds a modest .266/.324/.401 career slash line. He provides position flexibility at second, third and outfield, but limited spring training repetitions will hurt his chances of making an impact during the season. Spangenberg is well off the fantasy radar with an ADP of 388.
