7 years agoOn Tuesday, New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway told the media that starting pitcher Jacob deGrom may not be ready for Opening Day after enduring lower back stiffness this early in Spring Training. On Wednesday, deGrom himself was a bit more optimistic. After throwing a modified side session off the slope of a mound, deGrom told the media he’s hopeful he’ll be ready for Opening Day, and wants the assignment. There’s only one other realistic Opening Day option for the Mets anyway (Noah Syndergaard), and while it makes zero difference who pitches Game 1 and Game 2, it’s nice to see deGrom approach the topic with aggression. He will once again reward fantasy owners with another top-10 season.--John Smith
