Mark Melancon Hopes To Put 2017 Behind Him
7 years agoSan Francisco Giants closer Mark Melancon is looking to move on from an unforgettable 2017 campaign. Melancon spoke about his focus for 2018 and how he won’t forget about 2017, but will learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again. He is also focused on being productive and healthy. Melancon dealt with injuries throughout the year and blew five saves in 16 tries to go along with a 4.50 ERA. The closer underwent surgery on his pronator muscle and said his doctors discovered that there was a lack of blood flow and oxygen getting to the muscle and in turn, it was dying. The hope is that it returns to full strength over time. Melancon is scheduled to be ready for Opening Day and continues to work on building his strength back up. Melancon could enter the year as a sleeper at the closer position due to last years failure, but was one of the better closers for a half a decade prior to that. Owners who draft Melancon would be wise to keep an eye on relief pitchers Sam Dyson and Tony Watson who would like share the ninth inning if anything happens to Melancon.
