Erasmo Ramirez To Play Catch After Shutdown
7 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez (shoulder) will finally begin to play catch after being shut down from throwing in mid-February, per MLB beat writer Greg Johns. Ramirez suffered a mid-lat injury and was immediately prohibited from throwing. Ramirez was certainly a candidate to crack the starting rotation this season for the Mariners after posting a 3.92 ERA last season after being acquired via trade from the Rays. At this point, Ramirez is a long shot to begin contributing by Opening Day but should figure into the Mariners pitching plans in 2018 if he can regain full health. Look for Ramirez to begin stretching out his throwing distances over the next week, and he figures to begin the season in the minors to build up his arm strength.
