7 years agoSeattle Mariners starter James Paxton got roughed up again, this time by the Giants on Friday. It may only be spring training, but Paxton is certainly off to a rocky start. Paxton gave up four earned runs through three innings on Friday and now has allowed 11 runs in only 4 2/3 innings this preseason. Paxton surprised many last season when he emerged as the Mariners best starter in 2017, winning 12 games and posting a 2.98 ERA. His numbers could have been even better if not for a forearm strain last season, and the Mariners are hoping he can be the anchor to their rotation in 2018. Pitchers use spring training to work on everything from timing, to pitch selection to arm stamina, so numbers can certainly be deceiving. But this is not the start Paxton was envisioning as he tries to build on his success of 2017.--Joey C - RotoBaller
