7 years agoTwo San Diego Padres pitchers contending for starting gigs are moving in opposite directions. Starting Sunday, pitcher Luis Perdomo scuffled, allowing five earned runs and a 3.00 WHIP in three innings against the San Francisco Giants. Coming in relief, pitcher Chris Young fired four innings of shutout ball, retiring five via strikeout. Perdomo's edge heading into spring training has likely vanished while Young, a non-roster invite, has a compelling case to make the team as a starter or long reliever. Manager Andy Green remains constructive on Perdomo, but his 10.50 ERA in six spring innings has not impressed. In 11 innings, Young has registered a 2.45 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. The competition should remain heated until the end, with Perdomo and Young two of six pitchers fighting for the final two rotation slots.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
