Jean Segura Taking More Pitches This Spring
7 years agoSeattle Mariners shortstop Jean Segura walked only 34 times in 524 at-bats last season. Segura is an excellent hitter, but for a guy who is expected to be a table setter for Seattle's offense, he is quite the free swinger. So far this spring, Segura is hitting .318 with four extra-base hits but also has already walked four times in 22 at-bats. Of course this is a small sample size, but it is a step in the right direction for the speedy infielder with a career on-base percentage of only .324. If Segura truly wants to become an All-Star, that number will have to rise in 2018. The Mariners have two intriguing top-of-the-order bats in Segura and Gordon, and both are off to promising starts in 2018 so far.
