Eli Rogers Becomes A Free Agent
7 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers opted not to tender restricted free-agent wide receiver Eli Rogers, allowing the young wide receiver to become an unrestricted free agent. Rogers tore his ACL during the playoffs, an injury which could have played into Pittsburgh's decision to not tender him. The emergence of star rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster also likely played a role in the team's decision. Rogers saw a significant dropoff in statistics in 2017 with Smith-Schuster on the team. Rogers caught 66 balls in 2016 but just 18 in 2017. The injury may limit the market for Rogers, who could eventually help another team as a slot receiver.
