Ryan McMahon Doubtful To Start At First Base
7 years agoColorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon went 2-for-4 with one run, two RBI and a double in the 4-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. McMahon has been one of the best stories this Spring Training, as this game now gives him a .333 batting average, one home run and seven RBI's in 57 at-bats in Cactus League play. Despite this impressive play, though, it looks like Ian Desmond will get the starting first base job this year, according to the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders. This is mainly because of the Carlos Gonzalez signing that has made an already crowded an already crowded outfield even moreso. David Dahl, Mike Tauchman, Raimel Tapia and Desmond are all competing for spots and now Gonzalez will push to start. McMahon will most likely start with the AAA affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, and will look to build off a season where had a 1.023 OPS last season. Keep an eye out for what happens, but for right now, things are not looking too bright for McMahon to break camp with Colorado.
