7 years agoBattling for one of the final two spots in the Padres rotation, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Robbie Erlin took to the mound in an unscheduled start on Saturday night. Bryan Mitchell was scratched with a neck injury, giving Erlin a chance to prove himself. Erlin threw 3 2/3 innings of one-run ball, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out four. That was Erlin's second appearance of the springs pr he works his way back from 2016 Tommy John surgery, and he has now allowed only two runs over 6 1/3 innings while sporting a 10.8 K/9. While this was a good step for him towards locking up a spot in the rotation, Erlin does not provide much fantasy value right now. The 27-year-old has thrown 148 2/3 career innings over four seasons with a career 4.54 ERA and 6.6 K/9, and while it is possible he could pitch better than that this year, there is no reason to own him in anything but the deepest of NL-only leagues.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
