Jesse Chavez To Work From the Bullpen
7 years agoThe Texas Rangers have informed pitcher Jesse Chavez that he will not start the season as a full-time starter. This is not terribly surprising, as the 34-year old has worked as both a starter and reliever during spring training, and the results were not terribly inspiring. Expect Chavez to be deployed as a long reliever and part-time starter as needed, similarly to how the Angels utilized him last season. Speaking of 2017, there was not much to like, as the swingman gave up a 5.35 ERA and only struck out 7.76 batters per nine innings. There is the possibility that there is some positive regression, but it will be a surprise if he approaches the 138 innings he hurled last year. Ignore Chavez in all but the deepest of leagues.
