Shohei Ohtani's Final Spring Stats Underwhelm
7 years agoLos Angeles Angels starter and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani had his final outing of spring training on Saturday. It was an intrasquad game against mostly low-level minor league players. He only gave up two hits, but his fastball was as low as 89 miles per hour. One scout expressed concern about his fastball command and commented that he does not think Ohtani can pitch at the level many anticipate from him, at least not right now. Factor in that Ohtani is 3-for-28 at the plate this spring, and you have a player who might not light the world on fire as many have expected. He's still worth drafting for those who have not drafted yet, but expectations should be tempered, especially in the early going.
