7 years agoThe Seattle Mariners have re-signed infielder Gordon Beckham to a minor league deal, per MLB.com. Beckham was released last week despite hitting .340 in 47 preseason at-bats. The Mariners clearly value Beckham's veteran experience, and he is a plus defender at the shortstop, third and second base positions. Beckham should begin in the minors but could see big league action if oft-injured Jean Segura or the aging Robinson Cano go down at some point this season. Seattle also has a younger player in Taylor Motter to fill in, but Beckham's strong spring and defense will keep him in their plans. If Beckham does see any serious run this season, expect a batting average somewhere in the .240 range with minimal power and a subpar on-base percentage.--Joey C - RotoBaller
