Browns Trade Cody Kessler To Jacksonville
7 years agoThe Cleveland Browns agreed to trade quarterback Cody Kessler to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday. The Jaguars will send a 2019 conditional seventh-round pick as compensation for the third-year signal-caller. The Browns Sunday signing of backup quarterback Drew Stanton marked the end of Kessler's tenure in Cleveland, as the Browns already have Tyrod Taylor as their starter and are expected to add a rookie quarterback in the April draft. The Jaguars, meanwhile, were in the market for a backup to Blake Bortles after they lost long-time second-stringer Chad Henne to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in free agency. Jacksonville general manager Dave Caldwell told reporters, "We are excited about the opportunity to add Cody as depth to our quarterback position. Despite being just 24 years old, Cody has already seen NFL game action and was very effective as a rookie in 2016, showing accuracy and efficiency in posting a quarterback rating of 90-plus."
