7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard had himself quite the 2018 debut against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Thor began the campaign by throwing 85 pitches across six innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out 10 without any walks en route to a 9-4 win (but not a quality start). The four runs are certainly not what fantasy owners were hoping for, but 10 strikeouts without a walk will certainly keep him in good graces. Perhaps most uncharacteristically, Thor allowed two home runs. With a 0.74 HR/9 rate for his career and a figure of 0.54 in his only full major league season (2016), this could very well end up being Syndergaard’s worst game of the season when it comes to long balls. He’ll next take the hill in a divisional showdown against the Phillies on Wednesday.--John Smith
