Joe Musgrove Targeting Six Innings in Minor League Tuneup
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove (shoulder) broke camp as the team's fifth starter and will pitch in a minor league tuneup game on Saturday before making his first start next weekend against the Cincinnati Reds. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Liz Bloom, Musgrove will pitch either six innings or until he hits 100 pitches. The right-hander got off to a delayed start in spring training due to shoulder discomfort and the team wanting to ease him in after an extended postseason run last October with the Houston Astros. There's no set date for his Pirates debut yet, but he will join the rotation at some point during the Reds series, which begins on April 5. The former first-round pick posted a 6.94 ERA with nine strikeouts and four walks in 11 2/3 spring innings.
