Fernando Rodney Blows First Save, Winds Up With Win
7 years agoMinnesota Twins closer Fernando Rodney blew his first save of the season on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. Rodney came on in the top of the ninth inning in an 8-6 game and allowed Houston to score two runs on two singles and a throwing error by second baseman Brian Dozier. Rodney recovered to finish the inning with the game tied, striking out one batter. He wound up getting his first win of the season when Max Kepler hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. Rodney now has a 1-0 record, 3.86 ERA, two saves, and five strikeouts on the season. His propensity to put too many batters on base and allow too many runs to score keeps him from being an elite option at closer but he should see plenty of saves closing for an expected contender such as the Twins.
