X-Rays Negative On Kevin Plawecki
7 years agoOn a day where the New York Mets likely lost catcher Travis d’Arnaud for the season, platoon-mate Kevin Plawecki (hand) gave the team his own scare. Plawecki was scorched square on his left hand by a 100 mph fastball from Miami Marlins reliever Tayron Guerrero in the eighth inning, and Plawecki looked like he was in real pain. He stayed in the game, though, until he was pinch hit for by recently-recalled catcher Tomas Nido. While Plawecki was initially concerned he suffered a major injury, he said once he calmed down it wasn’t that bad. X-rays were negative on the hand, but it remains to be seen if more tests will be done. The Mets have Thursday off, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Plawecki rested a few days to heal up – he had a nasty bruise while standing on first base. Assuming he is healthy, Plawecki should see the bulk of backstop playing time for the Mets moving forward.
