Jason Vargas To Make Rehab Start In Five Days
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas (hand) is set to make a minor league rehab start in five days and could be ready to go for the big league club after that. Of course, this comes after Vargas struck out 12 hitters over six hitless innings in an intrasquad game on Monday, so one would think Vargas is just about ready to go regardless. Vargas has missed the first few weeks of the year with a fracture in his non-throwing right hand and has been replaced (for now) in the rotation by Zack Wheeler. However, Wheeler dominated in his lone start of the season thus far, and if he does so again on Tuesday, the Mets may have some things to figure out. When Vargas does return, it’s possible he carries back-end fantasy value at some point, but he should be left in the free-agent heap in all leagues unless he proves he’s worth the add.
