BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 60% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Houston Astros relief pitcher Chris Devenski has been a very strong setup man over the last few seasons, but an injury to Ken Giles makes him the top waiver wire pickup of the week. With Giles dealing with back tightness, Devenski will be given save opportunities, making him considerably more valuable.
Devenski already has two saves this season, allowing just one earned run in nine innings, and has struck out 11 and walked just one this season. This comes after two consecutive seasons where the 27-year-old reliever has topped 100 strikeouts with an ERA under 2.75 and a WHIP below 1.00.
There are only 30 closers spots in baseball and, if a pitcher like Devenski can grab one, he should be owned in all formats. Devenski should have been owned in more than 60% of leagues before getting the closer's role, as he is a dynamic middle reliever like Andrew Miller, but that number should be considerably higher if Giles is sidelined for a while.
