7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas continues to make his way back from a hand injury suffered during spring training. The next step in his recovery will come in the form of a rehab start for Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Assuming all goes well and he emerges from the rehab start unscathed, one would assume the Mets will call him up to the rotation next week. It remains to be seen, however, who Vargas displaces in the rotation. Zack Wheeler was the original no-brainer choice, but his better-than-expected results combined with the struggles of Matt Harvey seemingly makes the latter the obvious candidate. Vargas likely isn’t worth an add in most formats right away, though he could be worth some consideration in 14-team leagues or more.--John Smith
