7 years agoSeemingly out of nowhere in 2017, Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ became a strikeout pitcher by averaging 8.79 punchouts per nine innings when he hadn’t eclipsed 7.90 K/9 in any of the four years prior. In 2018, Happ is certainly showing those strikeouts were no fluke. After finishing with tallies of nine, nine and eight strikeouts in his last three games, respectively, Happ took things up a notch against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. He struck out a season high of 10 hitters across seven innings pitched, allowing only one earned run on four hits without a walk in the process. It was an impressive showing against one of the league’s best offenses for sure. For Happ’s next act, he has a significantly easier matchup against the Texas Rangers on Sunday. You should be starting him without question in that one.--John Smith
