7 years agoTexas Rangers corner infielder Renato Nunez hit a home run off J.A. Happ in a 7-2 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, The former A's prospect has gotten consistent run since being claimed off of waivers, logging 21 plate appearances over 6 games. Nunez's most interesting tool is his massive power, which saw the 24-year-old mash 32 bombs in Triple-A last season. The concern has always been if he'll make enough contact to make use of that raw strength. While nothing about his batting line inspires confidence, it's worth noting that Nunez is showing signs of adjustment. He appears to be adjusting his approach to try and make more consistent contact while swinging at pitches in the zone as opposed to chasing. Comparisons at this stage are often futile, but the changes ring similar to those made by Justin Smoak prior to breaking out, where he focused just on getting the bat on the ball and letting his natural strength do the rest of the work. It's far too early to assume something so drastic applies to Nunez, but keep in eye on the youngster in deep leagues and see if these trends continue.--Sean Scampton
