7 years agoSan Diego Padres manager Andy Green called out starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell after he suffered his third loss Sunday against the New York Mets. After being roughed up for five hits, four walks and four earned runs in four and 2/3 innings, Green challenged Mitchell to stand up to his potential. In six starts, Mitchell holds a 6.07 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and lopsided 0.61 K/BB. With a 16.50 ERA in the first inning, Mitchell has given the Padres almost no chance to win in his outings. Mitchell, who was traded to San Diego with Chase Headley this offseason, won a starting spot early on but the leash is rapidly shortening. While Mitchell offers no fantasy appeal, a possible replacement is 23-year-old prospect Brett Kennedy who is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA through 28 innings in Triple-A El Paso. The Padres could also go with long-reliever Robbie Erlin if Mitchell loses his starting job.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
