Mets Prospect David Thompson Suffers Hand Fracture
7 years agoOne of the lesser known but surprisingly productive New York Mets prospects, third baseman David Thompson, suffered a hairline fracture in his left hand and is facing a four- to six-week recovery. While Thompson is far from a can’t-miss fantasy prospect, he did have a very solid 2017 for Double-A Binghamton after struggling big time last April. He slashed .263/.325/.429 with 16 home runs, 62 runs scored, 68 RBI and eight stolen bases across 529 plate appearances last season. He’s off to another slow start this year for Triple-A Las Vegas with a .258/.329/.379 slash line, but now it will obviously be some time before he can attempt to improve on it. Thompson is noteworthy due to the Mets future, or lack thereof, at third base. With no real top prospects on the horizon at the position, if Thompson improves, he could be given a hard look for the job once current third baseman Todd Frazier’s contract expires after 2019.
