Andrew Triggs (SP, OAK) - Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 8% of leagues

ANALYSIS: If we take away two horrendous starts from Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Andrew Triggs this season, we would have a pitcher with 28 2/3 innings pitched, 32 strikeouts, three wins, and a sub-3.00 ERA. Of course, it is really easy to see how good pitchers would be without their two worst starts, but the strikeout upside from a pitcher with this type of home ballpark is intriguing to say the least.

After posting a 5-6 record and 4.27 ERA in 2017, seeing his strikeouts per nine dip from 8.8 to 6.9, there was not that much hype behind Triggs. However, with his strikeout rate jumping again this season and him allowing less hits (30 in 34 2/3 innings after allowing 68 in 65 1/3 innings last season), Triggs is a decent stash. His walk rate is up in each of his three seasons in the big leagues, 12 this season, but that is acceptable if he is able to limit hits and home runs (four this season).

It is not wise to start Triggs in Yankee Stadium this week, but if you are afraid that someone else might jump on him, he is a very interesting stash for the future.
