Jeurys Familia Picks Up First Save Since April 15
7 years agoEarlier on this season when the New York Mets were winning seemingly every day, closer Jeurys Familia was racking up the saves (he had seven as of April 13) and making fantasy owners very happy. Since then, however, with the Mets losing and Familia struggling a bit, both the save opportunities and saves themselves have been hard to come by. Over the course of 2 2/3 innings pitched across three games from April 21 through April 26, Familia allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk, watching his early-season numbers take a hit. On Monday, though, Familia picked up his 10th save of the season and first since April 24 by pitching a clean inning with two strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds. Familia certainly seems to be back on track, but with the Mets largely continuing to struggle, save opportunities may be scant.
