7 years agoIt hasn’t been a good week for Toronto Blue Jays starting pitchers in their series against the Seattle Mariners; J.A. Happ didn’t want to be the one to disrupt the trend. In a truly terrible outing on Thursday, Happ allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks with three strikeouts across 3 1/3 innings pitched. The Jays were down 4-0 before they even came to bat. Happ’s next start comes with an attractive matchup against the New York Mets, but he may not be the safe bet fantasy owners considered him to be just a few short weeks ago. Happ looked very off in his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays as well, though the results weren’t terrible (three earned runs across 5 2/3 innings pitched). After five straight starts with a minimum of eight strikeouts (and that was only in one of the five starts), Happ has punched out a mere three apiece in each of his last two outings. Something is off here. If Happ continues this trend against the Mets, it’s time to panic.--John Smith
