BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 35% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario has not stopped hitting since coming to the Tigers and has earned the right to be a starting third baseman in all deep leagues. Candelario had an .874 OPS in 106 plate appearances with the Tigers last season and has backed that up with an .889 OPS in 158 plate appearances this season.
Candelario has roped an impressive 12 doubles this season, adding in three triples and five home runs as well, driving in 16 runs and scoring 21 times. His plate discipline has not been as impressive this season as it was last season (18 strikeouts and 12 walks with the Tigers in 2017 and 34 strikeouts and 16 walks this season), but it appears that the 24-year-old has fully broken out as a viable option at the hot corner. Candelario has become a more selective hitter this season (42.1% swing rate), but has a 89.9% zone contact and 36.8% hard hit ball rate. The fact that Candelario has only 8% swinging strikes shows that he is not missing hitable pitches as well.
While some may be hesitant to anoint Candelario as a starting 3B in all formats, he is quickly earning that status. A matchup against the Indians may be tough, but the Mariners are not particularly a tough pitching matchup and Candelario should be fired up in all formats.
