7 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin has been playing pretty solid baseball as of late, but he’ll be getting the night off for the opener of the team’s series against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. After a very slow start to the season, Martin has hit two home runs in his last five games, and has a total of three in his last seven. For the season, he’s slashing an underwhelming .151/.277/.360 with five home runs, 12 runs scored, and 11 RBI. The numbers overall may not be fantastic, but at the catcher position you could certainly do a lot worse – especially if Martin is heating up just as he did in May of 2017.--John Smith
