Jason Vargas To Be Skipped This Turn Through Rotation
7 years agoThe New York Mets have had their fair share of starting pitching issues in 2018, the least of which not being Jason Vargas. After returning from injury on April 28, Vargas has gotten shelled in each of his starts, allowing earned run totals of nine, six, and four, respectively while not making it past the fourth inning in any. As such, the Mets are making the wise decision to skip Vargas this time through the rotation with a few extra days off mixed in. He’ll throw a simulation game on Tuesday. It should be noted that Vargas missed the first month of the season due to a broken bone in his non-throwing hand, and according to manager Mickey Callaway, the team probably should have had him throw an extra rehab start or two prior to his return. While that could be part of the issue here, fantasy owners with good memories will no doubt recall Vargas’ 6.38 ERA during 2017’s second half, which Vargas does not seem to have gotten past. He obviously should not be owned in any fantasy format at the moment.
