7 years agoSan Diego Padres minor league outfielder Franmil Reyes is tearing the cover off the ball in Triple-A El Paso. After going deep Saturday night, the 6-foot-5 Reyes leads the Pacific Coast League in homers (14), RBI (37) and OPS (1.188). After undergoing offseason wrist surgery, the 22-year-old Reyes was outside the top-30 prospects in the Padres farm system but now appears the next man up in the organization for the major leagues. Reyes has demonstrated consistent power, cracking 25 bombs at Double-A in 2017, but has greatly improved his plate discipline. His .440 on-base percentage is fifth-best in the PCL this season. However, the Padres have surplus outfielders and it's uncertain when Reyes will get an opportunity. Some transactions that could pave the way for Reyes would be designating outfielders Manuel Margot (.559 OPS) or Matt Szczur for assignment, or giving him a chance ahead of rehabbing outfielder Hunter Renfroe (elbow). For now, his path is obstructed but Reyes will be hard to ignore if he keeps raking.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
