7 years agoWashington Nationals first baseman Mark Reynolds hit two home runs in his Nationals debut on Sunday in Arizona. The second was a two-run go-ahead homer that won the game 6-4. Reynolds finished the night going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. He had just been called up the day before to replace first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who went on the disabled list with a strained oblique. Reynolds hit 30 home runs and had 97 RBIs for Colorado last year, but remained unsigned in the offseason. Zimmerman's slow start to the year made the team sign Reynolds as his backup. He's always been a power hitter, but the biggest literal hole in his game has been his (sometimes) league-leading strikeouts. In 2010, he struck out at a 35.4% rate and even last year he whiffed at a 29.1% rate. Still, if you can absorb those strikeouts, he makes an excellent replacement for Ryan Zimmerman. In fact, given how terrible Zimmerman's been, he might even be an upgrade. He should be on your wire and is a terrific roll of the dice if you don't have a top-tier first baseman.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
