6 years agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio has excelled in his short time in the rotation, but you’ll still want to stay away from him in a difficult matchup at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. In two starts this season in place of the injured Jaime Garcia, Gaviglio tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings in his 2018 starting debut against the Oakland Athletics and a quality start with three earned runs across six innings pitched in the other against the Philadelphia Phillies. He struck out six in each outing. The Red Sox and their elite offense are obviously a different animal, though. If Gaviglio succeeds here, then he’ll start to take on, at minimum, some streamer appeal.--John Smith
