ANALYSIS: Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Kyle Gibson has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his last five starts, registering seven scoreless innings against the Royals on May 29. For the season, Gibson has 73 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings, posting a solid 3.54 ERA and allowing just 53 hits.
While Gibson's numbers are very solid, he is only 1-3 this season, not winning since March 31. He has a solid 47.8% ground ball rate this season, but has also a 36.5% hard hit ball rate and 20.2% line drive rate. Gibson's soft hit ball rate is 20.7% since the beginning of May (better than his 18.8% rate for the season) and his 3.56 xFIP is in line with his season long performance.
The former first rounder will start on June 9 against the Angels before facing the Indians in Cleveland on June 15. While neither matchup is great, Gibson did just allow two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Cleveland on June 3, striking out seven batters.
