6 years agoThe New York Mets needed a big pitching performance out of starting pitcher Seth Lugo to avoid a sweep against the crosstown New York Yankees on Sunday, and they got one. Lugo dominated the Yankees across six scoreless innings pitched, allowing only two hits without any walks and eight strikeouts. What a night for Lugo, who is quickly removing any doubt that he belongs in the starting rotation. While Lugo only received the spot start in place of the injured Noah Syndergaard on Sunday, the simple eye test would tell you he belongs in the rotation over the middling Jason Vargas. The Mets do like using Lugo out of the bullpen though, so once Thor is healthy, chances are he’ll end up back there.--John Smith
