6 years agoWhile news came out on Monday that New York Mets prospect Peter Alonso would not be called up to the Major Leagues “no matter what” in 2018, apparently that statement thankfully didn’t include a promotion to Triple-A Las Vegas. Currently destroying pitching for Double-A Binghamton, Alonso could move up the ranks “soon,” according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alonso has dominated this season to the tune of a .310/.441/.567 (1.007 OPS) slash line with 15 home runs and nine doubles across 261 plate appearances and 62 games. With fellow first base prospect Dominic Smith getting the call to the Mets on Monday, it makes all the more sense for Alonso to hone his craft further in Triple-A. While there’s apparently no value here in 2018 given Monday’s news, Alonso is a must-hold in dynasty formats, as the organization does not seem very high on Smith anymore and may not give him much of a leash beyond 2017.--John Smith
