Jorge Mateo Continues To Struggle At Triple-A
6 years agoOakland Athletics shortstop prospect Jorge Mateo is hitting .188 over his past 10 games and continues to struggle in his first season in Triple-A. Mateo came to the Athletics in the Sonny Gray trade with the New York Yankees and was the main headline that the team got in return. Mateo, 22, has risen through the minor league system with success, but Triple-A has not been kind to the youngster. Over 211 at-bats, Mateo is hitting a poor .209 with two home runs, 24 RBI, 69 strikeouts and 11 stolen bases. It makes sense for the Athletics to have Mateo figure out Triple-A and not to rush him, as they already have shortstop Franklin Barreto as the next man up and Marcus Semien has held his own at the big league level. Mateo is more of a name for dynasty owners to keep an eye on, but he does have a very bright future with strong contact skills as long as he can learn the strike zone better.
