6 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Daniel Mengden suffered another lackluster outing Sunday in a 6-5 extra-innings win over the Angels. Mengden allowed four runs on six hits (including two home runs) and three walks with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. This marks his third straight start of allowing four or more runs after a solid batch of starts. Three key stats that stand out between Mengden's June starts vs the rest of the season are ground ball rate (35.8% in June vs 40.3% prior), hard contact rate (47.2% in June vs 36.5% prior) and HR/FB rate (36.4% in June vs 7.1% prior). The good vs bad Mengden serves as a reminder to fantasy owners that command specialists walk a very fine line between success and failure.
