Joey Lucchesi Makes Best Start Since Return
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Joey Lucchesi picked up his fourth win Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitching five frames of one-hit ball. Lucchesi walked four Pirates but did not allow a run, punching out five. The victory was his first since April 28 and Saturday marked his best start since returning from the disabled list on June 20. The 25-year-old rookie has impressed this season with a 3.26 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 9.3 K/9 but endurance has been an issue. Lucchesi has made it through six innings only twice in 12 starts. The Padres could be managing his innings, but Lucchesi should continue starting every fifth day for San Diego. He's an enticing backend fantasy starter and weekly streamer. He'll get the Arizona Diamondbacks next Thursday.
