7 years agoThe Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers have had preliminary discussions regarding starting pitcher Cole Hamels, according to sources. As long as Washington is a contender for the playoffs, they will look to upgrade their rotation behind Max Scherzer. Hamels is owed more than $7 million over the rest of the year and has a $20 million team option ($6 million buyout) for 2019. The Rangers would be asked to eat some of Hamels' contract, especially since he has a 5.28 ERA since the start of June. The Nationals are not among the 20 teams that Hamels can block a trade to. The veteran left-hander could use a change of scenery, as he has a 2.93 ERA on the road and 5.83 ERA at home this season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
