6 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Ben Gamel has seen his playing time reduced in the early stages of the second half of the season. The team has chosen to use Guillermo Heredia mostly in center field over the past week and Gamel has seen only five at-bats as a result. The left-handed hitting outfielder drove in 59 runs last season but only has 11 through 190 at-bats in 2018. The move is a bit curious given the fact that Gamel hit .357 in 57 at-bats in the month of June with two triples and four doubles. But the team apparently believes Heredia brings a more all-around game to the bottom of the lineup leaving Gamel as the odd man out. With the return of Robinson Cano looming and the possibility the Mariners could add more offense at the deadline, Gamel could find himself sliding further down the depth chart.--Joey C - RotoBaller
