Brad Boxberger Blows Fifth Save
6 years agoArizona Diamondbacks closer Brad Boxberger (1-4) blew his fifth save of the season on Thursday, giving up three runs on two hits and one walk over one-third of an inning against the Cubs. Boxberger was tasked with protecting a 6-4 lead in the ninth and proceeded to give up a two-run home run to Javier Baez followed by a walk-off home run to Anthony Rizzo. Before Thursday's implosion, Boxberger had not surrendered a run in his previous eight appearances. Boxberger has racked up 24 saves this season and would likely need to blow a few more chances before Torey Lovullo considers a change in the ninth.
