Orioles Get Jonathan Villar And Prospects For Jonathan Schoop
6 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles have acquired shortstop Jonathan Villar and prospects Luis Ortiz and Jean Carmona in a deal for Jonathan Schoop. Villar has struggled for playing time in 2018, but is just two seasons removed from a 62 stolen base campaign. If the Orioles give him regular playing time he is worth a pickup. Outside of Villar, Ortiz and Carmona ranked as the seventh and 14th best prospects in the Brewers' system according to MLB Pipeline. Ortiz holds an impressive 3.20 ERA and a 287/93 K/BB ratio over five minor league seasons. He could be a future front line starter for the O's. Carmona is just 18 and won't see the majors for a while, but holds a .254 batting average with five home runs, 48 RBI and 15 stolen bases over two minor league seasons.
