6 years agoMinnesota Twins reliever Trevor Hildenberger recorded his first save since August 13, 2017, and just the second of his career on Saturday. It wasn't a pretty save as Hildenberger came in to protect a 4-1 lead but promptly served up a two-run homer to Detroit Tigers second baseman Niko Goodrum. He then allowed the tying run to reach base on a single before getting three straight outs. Many believed Addison Reed would get the first shot at saves in Minnesota after the Fernando Rodney trade but Reed has not pitched well this season. Reed's ineffectiveness likely led to Hildenberger getting a shot to close out Saturday's game, although the homer allowed couldn't have done much to inspire his manager's confidence in him in the closer's role. This is shaping up as a situation to avoid as saves should be sparse for a Twins team that has thrown in the towel for the 2018 season.--Matt T - RotoBaller
